An armed man stormed a church service on Sunday, July 27, in Kisii town and attacked congregants.

The man, armed with a knife, caused a commotion at the Deliverance church in Kisii when he attacked and stabbed five members.

The congregation initially thought that the man had attended the service to receive salvation but things took an ugly turn when he attacked the church members.

In the ensuing commotion, the members of the church swiftly responded and took the knife away from him.

Among those injured include Kisii Central OCPD, who was attending the church service. The victims, who sustained various injuries, were rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

Police officers visited the scene and took the suspect to custody pending further investigations. The reason for the attack is yet to be established.

Residents and church members are now calling on the government to provide security during church services and assign offers to pastors.
