Country music star Toby Keith, celebrated in Middle America for his patriotic fervor and songs extolling the pleasures of drinking, has passed away aged 62.
“Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage,” a statement posted to Keith’s account on X, formerly Twitter, stated.
Who was Toby Keith?
Born on July 8, 1961, Toby Keith was an American country singer from Clinton, Oklahoma.
In April 1993, Toby released his self-titled debut album which was certified platinum.
Some of his most famous songs include, Should’ve Been A Cowboy and Beer For My Horses.
In 2005, Toby founded the label Show Dog-Universal Music which his daughter Krystal is signed to.
Over the span of his successful career, Toby released 19 studio albums and has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards from 1998 to 2011.
Additionally, he had taken home three CMA Awards and 12 Academy of Country Music Awards.
