Opinion: "What Edo Should Learn From Akwa Ibom Politics"
Over the years, in Nigeria, records have shown that many 'up-and-coming' ambitious politicians when introduced to political limelight would turn their back on their predecessor.
It would not be wrong to say that it is not entirely their fault.
Reasons at times could be that they tend to see their frontiers as a threat or as contradicting to their personal policies and the dignity of their political career in general.
Though they play 'loyal servants' to their frontiers, it is mostly believed that their true intention and agenda are never revealed until they have a grip on the seat of power. How strategic!
On the other hand, some leaders who adhere to the directives of their predecessors disregarding the yearnings of the people when they assume office are probably overwhelmed by pressure, and are left with no other choice than to succumb.
For instance in Akwa Ibom, the immediate predecessor of Governor Udom Emmanuel, who is now the Minister of NDDC Affairs, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, was the one who brought up  Udom Emmanuel as his successor, and certainly did expect some level of loyalty and compliance.
On the contrary, the interest of the people was never in line with whatever hopes and expectations Akpabio held.
Eventually, both Udom and Akpabio were found on different sides of the divide during the 2019 elections when the incumbent vied for a reelection.
