Former presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Kingsley Moghalu, has denied media reports that he has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was reported to have joined the ruling party based on a claim made by the APC's Anambra spokesperson, Okefo Madukaife .
"I am informing you, go and check, Dr Moghalu is no longer in YPP. Moghalu is supposed to be the leader of the party," Madukaife reportedly said.
However, Moghalu raised alarm about the irresponsibility of publishing the story in a series of tweets he posted on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.
"This headline, and the claim on which the report is based, is false, mischievous, and tendentious.
"I ask the public to disregard this fake news report, and to be guided by this clarification," the 57-year-old posted.
Months after losing the February 2019 presidential election, won by incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari , Moghalu resigned his membership of the YPP .
He announced that he was withdrawing from partisan politics to focus on To Build A Nation (TBAN), a non-partisan citizens' movement to campaign for electoral reform and engage in voter education.
