"Marriage Is Hard" – Michelle Obama Admits
Feb. 11, 2020
Former First Lady of the United States (US), Michelle Obama, has admitted that it’s not easy to stay in a marriage.
She made this revelation during an honest sit-down interview with television presenter Oprah Winfrey.
Michelle is currently married to Barack Obama, and the couple are blessed with two beautiful daughters.
Discussing her marriage life, Michelle said it took a lot of effort from herself and her husband to keep being together.
According to her, it got so bad that, at a point, they had to employ the services of a counsellor to help sort things out.
“It taught me that I was responsible for my own happiness. I did not marry Barack for him to make me happy,” she said, as quoted by Tuko.co.ke.
“No one can make me happy. If I am going to show up equal in this partnership, I have to be able to make myself happy and so I had to stop focusing on what he was not doing and start thinking about how to carve out the life that I wanted for myself, with or without Barack.”
Michelle added: “We went through a tough time; we did some hard things together. But now we are out on the other end and I can look at him and I still recognise my husband. He is still the man I fell in love with.”
