Brighton vs Watford LIVE commentary: Full talkSPORT coverage of huge relegation scrap

Feb. 08, 2020

Relegation rivals Brighton and Watford go head-to-head on Saturday evening in a Premier League six-pointer at the foot of the table.
Brighton are three points ahead of Watford but are without a top-flight win in 2020.
Graham Potter’s men know a victory at home for the Hornets would be huge as they look to beat the drop.
Likewise, a win for Watford, who have lost their last two, would take them out of the drop zone and put major pressure on the other teams in danger.
Brighton claimed an impressive 3-0 success at Watford on the opening day of the season.
talkSPORT will be on the south coast this weekend to bring you all the action live.

Brighton vs Watford: What has been said?
Brighton boss Graham Potter: “Nigel [Pearson] has come in and steadied the ship and made use of the quality which is there – don’t forget this is a team which finished in the top half of the Premier League last year, FA Cup finalists.
“So when you look through their side and you look at the players they have, they’ve got good players and good quality so we know it’s a tough game.
“I just focus on us.
“It’s not going to give me any comfort looking at the league table and deciding who’s in it [the relegation fight] and who’s not, we just have to focus on ourselves.
“Clearly wins are hard to come by, I think Arsenal have won the same number of games as us, so it just shows you that wins in the Premier League are hard to come by for everybody, including us.
“We just have to focus on the next game, try to take the good things that we’ve done in the game, take out the things we didn’t do so well and take the three points that we all would like.”
Brighton vs Watford: Match stats
Brighton are looking to secure their first league double over Watford since 1990-91, when the sides were playing in the second tier. Watford have lost just one of their last seven away league games against Brighton (W3 D3), though that defeat did come in the Premier League in December 2017 (0-1). Brighton won the reverse fixture against Watford 3-0 on the opening weekend of the season, scoring more goals in that victory as they had in their previous seven league meetings with the Hornets combined (2). Brighton have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games (D5 L4), a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in December. Indeed, no side has won fewer Premier League points in 2020 than the Seagulls (3). Watford have lost their last two Premier League games, conceding five goals in these matches; this following a run where they’d lost just one of eight league games (W4 D3), across which they’d shipped just four goals. Brighton have conceded three goals in each of their last two Premier League games, losing at Bournemouth before drawing with West Ham. They’d only conceded 3+ goals in two of their first 23 games under Graham Potter this season. Watford have lost 15 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, including six across their last two matches. Only in 2017-18 (21) have they lost more in a single campaign in the competition. Watford have become the seventh team to lose consecutive Premier League games thanks to goals scored in the 90th minute, and the first since Swansea in September 2017. No side has ever lost three consecutive games in such a fashion in the competition. Glenn Murray netted his first league goal of the season in Brighton’s 3-3 draw with West Ham last time out – at 36y 129d, he’s the oldest player to score in the Premier League this season.
Brighton vs Watford: Line-ups
Brighton have no fresh injury concerns and in a further boost, Shane Duffy trained on Thursday after he missed their last match following a minor operation.
New signing Tariq Lampty has been settling into the squad, but this match could come too soon for the former Chelsea player.
Tom Cleverley returns from injury for Watford. The former Manchester United man has been sidelined since October with an Achilles injury.
Kiko Femenia is nearing full-fitness, while Ismaila Sarr is unlikely to feature. Adalberto Penaranda is available after returning from his loan spell at Belgian side Eupen.
