WATCH: Trooper narrowly escapes life-threatening crash for second time in five months

Nov. 30, 2019

For the second time in five months, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation on the roadway.
According to KTVX , Trooper Riley Rugg was investigating an accident when his police vehicle was hit by another car.
The dashcam video shows Rugg notice a car coming toward him, sliding.
He rushed out of the way moments before the vehicle hit his car.
“It started veering towards my vehicle and kind of last minute I was able to run around the front of the person’s car and jump over the wall before they impacted my car. I was a little worried that he was going to maybe squeeze between my car and the wall and maybe hit me so I just tried to get over the wall so the concrete barrier could protect me … I was lucky to get over the barrier in time and avoid getting hit by the car,” Rugg told KTVX.
The 22-year-old has only been on the job for 14 months.
A similar incident happened in July when Rugg was at the scene of an accident. He got out of his patrol car and started walking away when a Ford F-350 rolled over top of it.
The truck driver in that crash was taken to the hospital.
Rugg and the person involved in the original accident were unharmed.
