The duo charged the board of the AfDB to ignore calls by the US for an independent investigation of Adesina having been exonerated by the Bank’s ethics committee.
Scooper had reported that Adesina was accused of handing contracts to acquaintances and appointing relatives to strategic positions at the Abidjan-based lender in a petition by a group of undisclosed whistleblowers inside the bank.
TheCable citing separate letters reported that Obasanjo and Ahmed urged Kaba Niale, Chairman of the AfDB board of governors, to follow laid down processes to protect and preserve the bank.
“The call for an independent investigation of the president is outside of the laid down rules, procedures and governing system of the bank and its articles as it relates to the code of conduct on ethics for the president,” Ahmed wrote.
