Atwoli Says Ruto Is A Beneficiary Of The Deep State And If Uncomfortable He Should Resign
Aug 14, 2020
Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has taken a jab at Deputy President William Ruto following his remarks about  ‘Deep State’ that the DP says intends to rig him out in the 2022 elections.
Atwoli said that the "system" that DP Ruto is challenging is the same system that bailed him out when he was facing a trial at the Hague.
He added that Ruto should be grateful to the former government led by President Mwai Kibaki that helped him when he facing the International Criminal Court (ICC) and in essence, it saved his political career that would have been over otherwise.
“I can tell you that it is former President Mwai Kibaki who saved Ruto from the ICC. He also had it easy during the 2013 elections. He should not forget that.” Atwoli said.
The outspoken unionist also said that Ruto was daytime dreaming and that he will never be the president of this country. He added, "I can tell you that it is former President Mwai Kibaki who saved Ruto from the ICC. He also had it easy during the 2013 elections. He should not forget that.” Atwoli said in an interview with the Star.
He maintained that Ruto is obsessed with succession politics rather than doing his job and serving the people that put him in office and that if he is uncomfortable being Deputy President, he should resign.
