OCS & 4 Officers Arrested For Stealing Vodka After Alcohol Lorry’s Accident
Aug 11, 2020
The OCS at Boya Police Station and four junior officers are being held at Kisumu Central Police Station for looting alcohol from a vehicle that had been involved in an accident. Nyando Police Boss Leonard Matete, who led the operation, confirmed receiving complaints from the crew of the accident that police officers had looted the alcohol the vehicle was ferrying.
Matete says after a search in the OCS's house,  they recovered 72 bottles of White Pearl vodka. OCS William Cheruiyot, and junior officers, including corporal Jane Chepkemei, police constables Bernard Macharia, Samuel Maina and Rodrick Laushuset are being held by the DCI officers in Kisumu.
Matete revealed that the Isuzu lorry that was ferrying the alcohol to Kisumu got involved in a non-injury accident just after Boya area. He added that it was a shame that, instead of guarding the lorry from members of the public, the officers went on a looting spree. Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Matete stated that  the national police service shall not condone such conduct from officers bestowed with the duty to protect life and property of Kenyans
