Roy Hodgson vents anger after Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew tests positive for coronavirus
Oct 18, 2020
Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has tested positive for coronavirus, manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed.
The Ghana forward tested positive for the virus on Friday upon his return from international duty, which meant he was unavailable for Sunday’s M23 derby against Brighton .
Ayew’s omission was evident throughout proceedings, with the Eagles failing to register a shot on target in open play during 90 minutes, with their goal coming from the penalty spot courtesy of Wilfried Zaha.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw , Hodgson expressed his disappointment over Ayew going on international duty amid the current coronavirus crisis.
“He’s been away with Ghana, which we weren’t exactly delighted to accept that he had to do. Like several other Ghanaian players I believe when they have gone back to their clubs they have tested positive.
“Now we have to follow the relative government and Premier League guidelines before we see him again.
“I don’t know [when we’ll have him back]. Don’t ask me to stand here and explain all of the Premier League government guidelines when it comes to COVID-19.”
Government guidelines currently state that people who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 10 days.
Ayew, Palace’s top scorer with nine goals last season, will also be required to return a negative test before being allowed to return to the club’s Beckenham training base.
