Chelsea Held At Stamford Bridge By Southampton
Oct 17, 2020
Southampton came from behind twice to share spoils with Chelsea thanks to an injury time goal from the vistors.
New signing Werner was on target twice to give Frank Lampard the lead in the first half as Ings pulled one for Southampton making it 2-1 deep in the first half.
Chelsea continued to dominate the match in the second half as they pushed the ball further up and creating crucial chances.
Adams made it 2-2 in the 57th minute when goalkeeper Kepa missed the ball before Adams dribbled the ball past him and cutting it across and sending a thunder shot on the roof of the net.
Two minutes later, the two Germans Werner and Havertz linked up for the third one as the former Bayern Leverkusen man calmly swiped the ball into the net.
Deep into the extra time, Theo Walcott drove the ball past the visitors defense as Verstergaard applied a little touch which was enough to cancel a Blue’s party.
Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott demonstrated how important he is at the club after joining his boyhood club from Everton as a free agent.
Individual errors by Chelsea once again proved how much effort and responsibility the Blue have to put in order to avoid such shortcomings in crucial matches.
