Disneyland stuck ‘in limbo’ waiting for California theme park reopening plan from state
Sep 24, 2020
'We are ready to open responsibly, it is the time to open responsibly and it's important to open responsibly,' says Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock.
Disneyland remains stuck “in limbo” waiting for a promised reopening plan from Gov. Gavin Newsom and state officials as the coronavirus closure of California theme parks stretches past the six-month mark.
“Without those guidelines, we’re quite honestly in limbo,” Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock said. “We are ready to open responsibly, it is the time to open responsibly and it’s important to open responsibly.”

Potrock aired his frustrations with Gov. Gavin Newsom and the lack of California theme park reopening plans during a meeting with the Southern California News Group editorial board.
Disney’s Anaheim theme parks closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and remain shuttered while they await guidelines for safely reopening from the state. The adjacent Downtown Disney outdoor shopping mall reopened in July.
Anaheim’s budget deficit has risen to $100 million and the city’s unemployment rate has risen to a historic high of 15% since Disneyland closed.
“I was walking the streets of Anaheim earlier this week and unfortunately it’s a ghost town,” Potrock said. “The same thing could be said for many of the surrounding towns as well. There’s just no one there. It’s just so incredibly heart wrenching.”
