‘Vettel just can’t get a lap out of the car’
Aug. 11, 2020
Slumping to his worst start to a F1 season since 2008, Jenson Button says Sebastian Vettel “just can’t” get a good lap out of his SF1000.
For the second time in five qualifying sessions, Vettel was unable to make it out of Q2 at the Silverstone circuit.
The German lined up P11 for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix but soon found himself lagging behind in 20th place after spinning on the opening lap.
Touching the kerb at Turn 1, he spun his Ferrari and fell to the back of the pack.

Vettel attempts at a recovery were hampered, at least he believes, by Ferrari and he questioned the team’s strategy.
The team pitted him into traffic rather than leave him out and have his team-mate Charles Leclerc have to overtake him.
“Maybe we did not have the courage to let it come to Charles overtaking me, although he was on a different strategy and we preferred to rather pit me to avoid that,” he told RTL.
“I had enough speed to stay out. The guys that were infront of me after my pit stop were doing the exact same lap times that I did with older tyres.”
Vettel finished the grand prix down in 12th place leaving him 13th in the Drivers’ standings after five rounds with 10 points.
It is his worst start to a campaign since his first full year in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso in 2008.

Former F1 driver Button is surprised by Vettel’s struggles.
“I so want him to be doing well,” the 2009 World Champion told Sky Sports.
“It was such a strange incident. It sounded like he got single wheel spin on the kerb, that snapped, and it’s gone the other way.”
He added: “His head has dropped, and hopefully we’re going to come to the race next weekend and it’s the Sebastian Vettel that we are used to.
“I remember in 2010-2013 when I was competing against him, most of the time he didn’t put a foot wrong. He was always there and could always get a lap out of the car.
“He just can’t do that at the moment.”
Vettel’s best result this season has been his P6 from the Hungarian GP while his team-mate Leclerc was managed two podiums including a runner-up result at the Austrian GP.
