Friday marked the Salah celebration for Muslim faithful the world over. This year's Eid-el Kabir is one like no other. It was commemorated in the midst of a pandemic that has crippled the world for over five months. Celebrating Eid in light of this meant that strict compliance to health protocols was needed.
Though the federal government and in fact most state governors warned Muslim faithful to observe a low-key observance of the Eid, and also observe COVID-19 protocols at their mosques while praying, reports have it that many Muslims flagrantly violated these rules across Nigeria on Friday.

Punch correspondents went round some popular mosques in Bauchi, Katsina, Yobe, and Borno states. They observed that several worshippers clustered together in their numbers to pray in violation of the COVID-19 protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
It was observed in Bauchi that most worshippers who gathered outside the Bauchi Central Mosque did not wear face masks, while they also freely exchanged pleasantries. The same thing was observed in Katsina state as worshippers were seen trooping to the various Eid praying grounds in the state as early as 7am.
