Accident At Mombasa Port Kills Two

A fertilizer silo bean collapsed at Mombasa Port injuring six people and killing 2.  Police reports indicate that the accident happened at 5:10pm Friday at the Portside Freight Container Station, owned by Governor Hassan Joho’s family.
Rashid Salim, Acting Managing Director Kenya Ports Authority, confirmed that engineers from a private firm were working at Shed number 7 where the accident occurred. 
“We regret to confirm that an accident occurred inside the port at shed number 7 involving engineers from a private firm were installing a fertilizer bagging equipment,” Salim said.
The two who passed on were identified as Mwangi Gathendo a 44-year-old James and Vikash Singh a 35-year-old machine operator. The injured were Harrison Munyaka (30), Keya Biria (25), Rebecca Maranga (28), Morris Oluoch (27), Laik Ahmed (25) and Bibi Rama (27).
The bodies were taken to Pandya Hospital mortuary while the injured received treatment at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital. John Elungata, Coast Regional Commissioner, said an investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the accident. Mr. Salim added that KPA has already teamed up with authorities for investigations.
