Ricardo Zarate Turns West LA Restaurant Pikoh Into Dinner-Only 'Peruvian Cantina'

Pikoh switches it up
Ricardo Zarate’s West LA restaurant Pikoh seems to have quietly flipped. Rumor has it that the restaurant underwent a quick nip and tuck last weekend, emerging this week as a so-called Peruvian Cantina. They’ve scrubbed their Instagram account and now only have the new cantina dinner menu to offer customers on their website. That means no more all-day hours and casual California fare, though word is that Pikoh will once again start offering lunch in the near future. Eater reached out to reps for the restaurant but so far has not heard back.
Moving the conversation
The LA Times has a fantastic update on the inner workings of the business relationships that kept Post & Beam in local hands. The Baldwin Hills staple restaurant is still thriving after more than eight years, and if ownership has its way, that will continue on for generations.
Doing it for the movement
The Lasa team in Chinatown is hosting a big dinner this Friday with chef Ross Magnaye of Rice Paper Sister in Australia and Toyo chef Jordy Navarra out of the Philippines. The seven-course tasting menu evening runs $120 per person.
Not so evil after all
The awesome folks from Evil Cooks are longtime itinerant pop-up restaurant artists who just inked a deal to show up at Smorgasburg in Downtown every single Sunday. They also happen to be total sweethearts, says LAist, who are willing to try new things all the time, from making clothing to one pretty spectacular flan taco.
Another day to dine
Echo Park restaurant Tsubaki is now open seven days a week. The casual Japanese spot started doing Monday service as of this week, alongside next door sake project Ototo.
Game time
Barrel & Ashes once again has NFL Sunday Ticket, meaning sports fans can head to the Valley barbecue spot to cheer on their local team while also enjoying brisket nachos, ribs, and fried chicken sandwiches.
What a party it will be
The Tumaca Truck is turning three years young, and to celebrate the Spanish snack makers are hosting a party — complete with lots of jamon iberico — at Silverlake Wine tomorrow night, beginning right at 5 p.m. sharp.
