Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga wants Parliament to reveal names of MPs who were flown to the United States (US) to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) at the expense of the taxpayers.
This was after it emerged Kenya sent the largest delegation to America with reports indicating 85 MPs, MCAs, clerks , Speakers and their support staff left the country over the weekend for the global conference in the US.
Former prime minister Raila Odinga had earlier criticised the US trip saying it amounted to total waste of revenue and unnecessary burden on the taxpayers. Photo: Raila Odinga.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 7, Raila termed as shameful decision by Parliament and county assemblies to send such a big delegation of a summit in Nashville, Tennessee, its immediate relevance to taxpayers and even the MPs themselves was not clear.
Raila also expressed disappointment at the Kenyan legislators for blaming and condemning the media for exposing the expensive foreign trip and challenged the two Houses and the county assemblies to tell Kenyans who was in the delegation to the US.
"I want to differ extremely strongly with the position taken by the National Assembly on this matter. The strange rage displayed by the lawmakers does not in anyway exonerate the House and its leadership. Instead, it betrays a collective sense of guilt," he stated.
