Troy Parrott finds net for Ipswich, Olamide Shodipo helps Oxford into League One play-offs
May 9, 2021
Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott found the net on his final appearance on loan at Ipswich, while ex-Boys In Green Under-21 international Olamide Shodipo also scored as Oxford reached the Sky Bet League One play-offs.
Oxford took full advantage of Portsmouth's slip up to finish in the third tier play-offs for the second season in a row.
A 4-0 win over Burton on the final day of the regular campaign ensured Karl Robinson's side kept up their part of the bargain of needing to win to keep alive their hopes of promotion.
Leixlip native Shodipo (23) - capped by Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 level - and Matty Taylor struck during the first half and Elliot Lee and Sam Winnall added gloss late on to help Oxford finish sixth, which completes a remarkable turnaround for a side who were in the relegation zone as recently as December.
Portsmouth, who had Ireland forward Ronan Curtis in their side, dropped down to eighth after Adam Phillips scored the only goal of the game to earn Accrington a 1-0 win at Fratton Park on a disappointing day for Danny Cowley's men.
Ipswich, who were not in play-off contention, ended a frustrating campaign with a 3-1 victory over Fleetwood after James Norwood, Gwion Edwards and Parrott scored during the opening half an hour.
Parrott has been on loan at Ipswich from Tottenham Hotspur since 1 February after a previous loan at Millwall in the Championship was cut short. His goal against Fleetwood was his second in 18 League One games since making the move to the Tractor Boys.
