Idris Elba, Naomi Campbell Criticize Ghana Over Gay Rights
Mar 1, 2021
Supermodel Naomi Campbell and actor Idris Elba are among many others who have openly criticized the government of Ghana over their stand on gay rights.
In a letter signed by the two and 67 other people of influence, they express their concern over government action on LGBT right groups and their campaigners in the country.
The news comes barely a month after the government closed down offices belonging to an LGBT rights group in the capital Acra following an uproar from religious leaders and politicians.
Idris Elba is on the matter more as his mother comes from the West Africa country and has also worked on a film back in 2015 in Ghana dubbed Beast of no Nation.
The government has also taken a swipe at foreign leaders who are advocating for the rights and even attended the opening of the group center back in January.
Sarah Adwoa Safo teh minister in charge of gender, children and social protection has made it clear that gay rights are non-negotiable and that they are against their culture.
Those found in the promoting the act face up to 25-years in prison as no legislation has been passed on the matter.
